2 women from Assam bag awards in beauty pageant in Malaysia

Both the representatives from India were well trained by Manika Sinha, national director of Mrs International Global for India.

GUWAHATI:

Two Assam women – Tarali Sarmah and Dr Sumi Choudhury Das – bagged ‘Mrs Photogenic’ and ‘Mrs Glamorous’ awards respectively in the Global Platform ‘Mrs International Global World Finale 2023’ held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from January 9 to 13.

Twenty-three national winners from different countries like India, Mexico, Japan, Vietnam, Ukraine, Philippines, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Latin USA, Sri Lanka, Botswana and China took part In the five-day-long programme.

The finalists were judged based on their personality, talent and interpersonal skills.

This platform is initiated by ‘Mrs International Global (MIG)’ to celebrate women’s rights, and to highlight the world women as ‘Women of the face-be brave and stop bullying’ to her family and community and to give recognition to women who exemplify empowerment in their chosen careers and have made themselves unique as they influence others and serve as an inspiration and catalyst for change.

Both the representatives from India were well trained by Manika Sinha, national director of MIG for India.

On the first day of the programme, both Sumi Choudhury Das and Tarali Sarmah presented the pride of Assam-handcrafted rhinos, phulam gamocha, jaapi and sorai to the delegates of all the participating countries as token of respect.

During the programme of ‘Talent and cultural night’, Tarali Sarmah performed Bihu dance and also showcased Assam’s rich traditional attire ‘muga mekhela shador and the complete Bihu dance costume’ as the pride of Assam.

Sumi Choudhury Das performed a dance drama on the ‘greatest woman freedom fighter’ India has ever had-Queen of Jhansi Rani Lakhsmibai.

In the programme of cultural night, both the representatives presented Assam’s rich traditional culture with their costumes by wearing muga mekhela shador and Assam silk lehenga.

During the advocacy presentation and personal interview round, Sumi Choudhury Das presented the advocacy for ‘sex education in rural schools and prevention of sexual violence’ and Tarali Sarmah presented the advocacy for ‘gender equality with a special focus on girl education and women empowerment’.

The final event was conducted in the High Convention Hall of Kuala Lumpur on January 13, wherein Tarali Sarmah represented the national bird peacock while Sumi Choudhury Das represented the national flower lotus with their costumes.

Apart from the other daily activities, a one-day city tour was organized by the MIG team with the support and participation of the department of tourism, Malaysia government wherein all the representatives of the participating countries experienced the most exotic fruit of Malaysia-durian fruits, photoshoots with the national flag, visit to Batu Caves & other exotic places & also with the Malaysian cuisine with the various traditional activities.
