40k smart meters for Garo Hills, no charges for 5 years

During the event, officials of the smart meter company, Synergy Green Industries Limited (SGIL), told the participants of the programme that the installed smart meters being come with in-built GPRS and online bill payment facility is available through the mobile app.

The Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL) will install 40,000 smart meters for consumers of West Garo Hills district in its first phase and has announced that no charges will be levied on its use for the next five years.

The state power distribution company, in collaboration with the West Garo Hills district administration, on July 7, organised an awareness and live demonstration programme at Tura DRDA Hall for the government officials on installation and use of the smart meters, a joint initiative of the Centre and the state government.

During the programme, the MePDCL officials informed that installation of smart meters in other districts of Garo Hills has already started and the same will also be done in West Garo Hills with the expected target of installation to be completed by November or December, this year.
