TURA:

The grand inauguration of the 5th Meghalaya Games is poised to take place on January 15, 2024, with the final group of athletes and officials arriving in Tura earlier this morning.

At the ISBT, Tura, officials from the Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) and the District Administration of West Garo Hills extended a traditional welcome to the arriving athletes for the Meghalaya Games 2024.

A historic moment is on the horizon as on January 15, Droupadi Murmu, the President of India, will officiate the opening of the 5th edition of the Meghalaya Games at the PA Sangma Stadium in Tura. Notably, this marks the first time in history that the Meghalaya Games are being hosted outside Shillong.

The athletes who reached ISBT, Tura, were treated to invigorating live performances by teams from the Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project, uplifting their spirits and infusing the vibrant energy of the Games.

To ensure a seamless inauguration ceremony aligned with the protocols for the President’s visit, a comprehensive dress rehearsal is underway at the PA Sangma Stadium.

Close to 3000 athletes are actively participating in the 5th Meghalaya Games, showcasing their talents across 23 disciplines. The events are spread across 16 venues in Tura town.

Furthermore, medical aid was extended to some injured athletes at the ISBT, underscoring the organisers’ commitment to the well-being of all participants.
