A nine-year-old died after he was swept away by strong currents of the Kombe stream, on April 22.
Identified as Arian Tengkam M Sangma, the boy’s body was fished out of the stream near the Sonampara bridge at around 9:30 am by villagers who had launched a search operation.
According to locals, Arain was returning from Sonampara LP school when he tried to cross the Kombe stream, which was swelling due to incessant rains in the last few days and got swept away by strong currents.
Tura along with the rest of Garo Hills had been lashed by a powerful thunderstorm since yesterday night and the water levels of water bodies had risen beyond the danger mark in the region.
Since Easter Monday, the total count of deaths by drowning has risen to 7 in Garo Hills.
