Aizawl police arrests two for illegal bike racing

This type of rash street bike racing on public roads will not be tolerated under any circumstances, said the SP.

AIZAWL:

Aizawl Traffic Police, on April 7, arrested two persons for performing illegal bike racing at Chanmari locality.

“The incident was reported at around 10:17 pm last night, and the police received a complaint at 10:30 pm. When the police arrived at the scene, the bikers had already fled,” said SP Traffic Rodingliana Chawngthu in a statement, on Thursday.

The Traffic Police swung into action after a video of two bikers racing on the main road of the locality went viral and some citizens filed a complaint against the bikers. Acting swiftly after receiving the complaint, police arrested both the bikers within 24 hours

“This type of rash street bike racing on public roads will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Mizoram Police will take strict action against anyone, who indulge in such illegal activities, endangering the precious lives of others and also disturbing the tranquillity,” the statement read.

The statement stated that illegal racing on public roads is punishable under sections 183, 184 and 189 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
