SHILLONG:
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP) seized an AK-47 rifle and a magazine from an Agartala-bound train at Lumding station, on April 7.
Sabyasachi De, chief public relations officer of Northeast Frontier Railway, said that the RPF and the GRP, during patrolling, spotted a suspicious bag at around 8:45 pm inside the train at the station and thereby approached the person sitting next to it.
“When the security personnel asked the young man sitting next to the bag, he jumped off the train towards the non-platform side. Upon searching the bag, the security personnel found an AK-47 rifle and a magazine from the bag,” De said.
The NF Railway further said that the railway police personnel have checked the CCTV footage to trace the man.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered against the person at Lumding GRP under Section 25(a) of the Arms Act.
