A senior Congress leader from the city was visibly “delighted” when she had to look for her seat in the Assembly before the budget session began, on March 4.
Ampareen Lyngdoh, who had recently extended support to the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government, said, “Like a new kid going to a new classroom, I was literally looking for my seat and saying to myself. ‘Where I am going to be sitting in the entire new arrangement?’.”
Suspended Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader, who for the first time this term, sat in the treasury bench, said that the first day of the Budget Session was “unusual” for her.
“I felt there is a sudden ray of hope. There was a feeling of a window opening out for us,” said the East Shillong MLA.
Lyngdoh also said that ever since she and four of her colleagues extended support to the MDA government, it has been a pleasant experience.
“So, I am happy and there is no harm in saying that I am looking forward to this new partnership,” Lyngdoh said, adding that now she has been able to tackle certain issues that were left pending by her as an MLA, through respective departments.
She further added that after joining the MDA coalition government a lot of work has been done which were sitting unattended. “I believe that I did the right thing by joining the MDA coalition,” she said, asserting that she understands the complexity of being suspended by the Congress, “but I am positive about joining the MDA,” she said.
She also said that she has a very peculiar campaigning model where she goes door to door and asks people what is the way forward.
“So, whatever decision I take six months down the line, it will be with the consent and blessings of my people,” Lyngdoh added.
