Ardent questions night load-shedding

The VPP chief also said that the failure of the government in the power sector is serious and that a time may come when there will be no more electricity anymore.

SHILLONG:

The opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) has questioned the effectiveness of MeECL’s decision to resort to load-shedding during the night while also slamming the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government for its failure in the power sector.”Majority of the people in fact are not using electricity at night.

The use of power is more during the daytime. So there is no point imposing load-shedding at night as it will not help them (to achieve their objective),” VPP chief Ardent M Basaiawmoit said.

The VPP chief also said that the failure of the government in the power sector is serious and that a time may come when there will be no more electricity anymore.

“We are not getting power for many hours due to the load-shedding. Therefore, the government has totally failed to handle the power sector in the state,” he added.

On the other hand, the Nongkrem legislator said that the government had also failed to implement important power projects in the preceding years and this has led to the present situation of the state facing huge power crisis.

He also alleged that despite the government had commissioning the Ganol project yet it was unable to generate even one unit of power to inject to the power grid.

Moreover, the government has also failed to incorporate suggestions given from time to time on how to address the problem of power shortage in the state, he added.

Further, Basaiawmoit asserted the need for the government to take the power sector seriously by implementing various power projects in order to meet the power requirement of the state.
