Assam Higher Secondary results show dip in pass percentage

In the Arts stream, the decrease in pass percentage was more than 15 per cent this year compared to 2021, while in Commerce it fell by about 12 per cent and in Science, the dip was around 8 per cent.

The overall pass percentage of the Higher Secondary (HS) final examination conducted by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) has gone down compared to previous years.

In the Arts stream, the decrease in pass percentage was more than 15 per cent this year compared to 2021, while in Commerce it fell by about 12 per cent and in Science, the dip was around 8 per cent.

Of the 1,56,107 students who appeared in the HS (Arts) examination, 1,30,324 students or 83.48 per cent passed. Of them, 29,487 secured first division, 52,994-second division and 47,893 secured third division.

The pass percentage of HS (Arts) was 98.93 in 2021, 78.28 per cent in 2020, 75.14 per cent in 2019 and 74.68 in 2018.

While Dhemaji district showed good performance with 94.67 pass percentage, Cachar district showed the lowest with 64.09 per cent.

Of the 15,199 students who appeared for the exam in the Commerce stream, 13,264 students or 87.27 per cent got through. Of them, 5018 secured first division, 5,186 got second division and 3,060 secured third position. The pass percentage of the Commerce stream was 99.57 per cent in 2021, 88.18 in 2020 and 87.59 in 2019.

In the Science stream, 30,915 students out of 33,534, who appeared for the exams, passed. The pass percentage is 92.19. Of them, 20,171 obtained first division, 20,171 second division and 9,833 students secured third division. The pass percentage of Science stream was 99.06 in 2021, 88.06 in 2020 and 86.50 in 2019.

Notably, owing to the pandemic, in 2021, the results were announced based on the past academic career of students.

Congratulating the successful students, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “Congratulations to all students who passed the HS exams, results of which were declared today. May you all continue excelling in your academic pursuits. However, those who couldn’t perform well shouldn’t lose heart but keep trying. I’m sure you too will be crowned with success.”
