Assam-Mizoram boundary row: Himanta-Zoramthanga meet in Delhi

At a one-to-one meeting held at Assam House, both the chief ministers reviewed the ministerial level talks held at Aizawl on August 9 this year.

Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, met his Mizoram counterpart Zoramthanga in New Delhi on September 21 to resolve the long-standing inter-state border issue.

“To resolve the long-standing border issue with Mizoram, met chief minister Zoramthangaji at Assam House, New Delhi and reviewed ministerial-level talks held at Aizawl on August 9. We are in the process of forming a regional committee to discuss & resolve the issue,” Sarma tweeted after the meeting.

“Happy with the progress of talks on the border issue,” Zoramthanga told reporters after the meeting.

A ministerial-level delegation headed by Assam minister Atul Bora went to Aizawl to hold talks on resolving the border problem.

Later briefing media persons, chief minister Sarma said he reviewed with his Mizoram counterpart the ministerial level talks held in Aizawl and both found the progress since then to be satisfactory.

Sarma said that both discussed a gamut of issues about resolving the vexed border imbroglio between the two neighbouring states.

“We are also in the process of forming a regional committee to discuss and resolve the border issues between the two states, ” he added.
