Axis Bank deputy manager arrested for forgery in Guwahati

GUWAHATI:

The Guwahati City Police, on September 6, arrested a deputy branch manager of Axis Bank, Bhetapara branch, Iftisun Haque Choudhury for fraudulently withdrawing money from a customer’s bank account using ATM.

Choudhury was earlier working with Zoo Road branch of HDFC Bank when she committed the crime. She is a resident of Mangaldoi in Darrang district.

“Iftisun Haque Choudhury had withdrawn Rs 1.75 lakh from a bank customer using his ATM and PIN. The arrest was made based on an FIR lodged by the bank customer Jyoti Krishna Das on June 27 in Geetanagar police station on fraudulent withdrawal of money from her account,” said a senior police official.

“Based on CCTV footage and mobile phone location, we arrested her from her rented accommodation in Nayanpur area. Some passbooks, ATM cards and cheque books were also seized from her,” he also said.

“Due to her privilege as a bank employee, she would use customers’ ATMs to withdraw money. Following CCTV footage, deposits into her account and technical analysis; her thefts were confirmed. The White Cap she used in ATMs to evade CCTV was also recovered,” the official said.

“Raid at her premises led to the recovery of 6 new ATM packs, 1 cheque book of Axis Bank, 6 cheque books, 1 new welcome kit and 10 ATMs of HDFC Bank; 2 mobile phones and 1 PAN card and the cap,” he added.

Meanwhile, a case No 189/22 under section 420 of IPC has been registered in Geetanagar police station in this connection.

Choudhury was produced before the court of the chief judicial magistrate, who remanded her to three-day police custody on September 6.
