Bernard in police custody for six more days

TURA:

There is no relief in sight for arrested BJP vice-president and Tura MDC Bernard N Marak, who has been in police custody since the last week of July, with the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Tura sending him to another six more days of police remand on Wednesday.

The latest court order makes the arrested BJP leader in police custody for the longest term of 26 days.

He was first sent to police custody for 14 days after his arrest in Uttar Pradesh and subsequent return to Tura on immoral trafficking ground and on completion of the two-week remand was sent to judicial custody for a brief period of a couple of hours before the court sent him back to police custody for another six days in the case of the recovery of explosives and lethal weapons from his farmhouse.

On Wednesday, the police petitioned the court for eight more days of custody in connection with the explosives case to which the CJM court granted six days.

Police sources inform that the arrested BJP leader is refusing to cooperate with the ongoing investigation which is why more remand is being sought from the court against Bernard.

Marak is facing serious charges of immoral trafficking and concealment of weapons in his farmhouse and a case of POCSO is also being investigated relating to the rape of a minor girl in the farmhouse for a week.

Marak was arrested on July 26 subsequent to a raid in his farmhouse where police unearthed an alleged brothel, on July 22. Police arrested 73 people, including 26 women, and also rescued six children, including minors. Medical examination of one of the minors later revealed sexual assault.
