SHILLONG:
The national secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Rituraj Sinha, has asked Home Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui, to resign after the shooting incident by Assam police at Mukroh, in West Jaintia Hills district on November 22, which lead to the death of six persons.
“The way the police are managed in Meghalaya with everything centred around Shillong, and not adequate support for the people in the interior areas, I think it is time for the Home Minister to take some responsibility. He should resign because he has been unable to discharge his duties,” Sinha said.
He also said that President’s Rule is never a preferred option in a democracy since the BJP believes in the choice and voice of the people.
The national secretary of the BJP also said that the party believes that if the Assam state police has acted out of line and the Judicial enquiry proves it strongest action should be taken against the Assam Police personnel.
Sinha also informed that a delegation of the state BJP led by president Ernest Mawrie will meet Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on November 30 to present the state’s case.
The national secretary of the BJP also asked Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to support the families of victims who died in the firing by giving them government jobs.
It may be mentioned that a delegation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday led by its national secretary Rituraj Sinha visited the families of the five villagers of Mukroh village in West Jaintia Hills.
Sinha during his visit extended financial assistance to the next of kin of those who lost their lives.
