SHILLONG:
Deputy Chief Minister and national vice-president of the National People’s Party (NPP) Prestone Tynsong, on September 24, hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for promising to implement Inner Line Permit and include Khasi in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
Tynsong said that with elections round the corner, the BJP is making these demands of the indigenous people of the state as their election issue.
“If the BJP really loves the state and its people then it should implement ILP and include Khasi in the Eighth Schedule before the polls in 2023,” Tynsong said while speaking at a programme organised by the National People’s Youth Front at Pynursla.
He said that since the BJP is ruling at the Centre, the state government has to go to Delhi to meet the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
He said that for the NPP, whether elections or not the party will always take up the issues concerning the indigenous people of the state.
Tynsong also said that with elections coming the allies in the government are now washing their hands off.
On allegations of the opposition that the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government was indulging in corruption and that there is existence of some “high level” who are promoting it, he said that along with their claims they should also provide documentary proofs.
