SHILLONG:

The Blind Lead Trust (BLT), a non-government organisation (NGO) working for the welfare of visually-impaired persons in the state, on June 1, sought support from the government on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds, stating that non-profit organisations depend on such funds for their income and expenditure.

In a letter to State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, the BLT said that based on their activities at least 2 per cent of company’s income should go to the charity or non-government organisations so that these organisations can be sustained and contribute to the society.

“According to our understanding, this is best way for persons with disabilities organisations in the state and the country so that they get financial support and promote social welfare and development through different projects and make sure that such activities are inclusive. Therefore, if the government takes this CSR as a step or a scheme for PwDs NGOs it will serve as a great opportunity for them,” Director and Managing Trustee of BLT Jitendra Dkhar said in the letter.
