New Delhi:

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and his Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma, on January 20, briefed Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the proposed resolution between the two states to end the decades-long border tussle.

Both Sangma and Sarma jointly met Shah at his residence at Krishna Menon Marg, New Delhi, on Thursday evening and briefed him on the outcome of the proposed suggestions of the respective regional committees, setup to find an ultimate solution of the border tussle.

Talking to The Meghalayan, former Union Home Secretary GK Pillai welcomed the development and said that the consensus of the people living along the border areas of both the states should be taken into consideration.

“Both the States has a long border history. It’s good that government in both states have come forward for an amicable solution to end the decades-long border tussle,” said Pillai.

With Meghalaya celebrating its 50th Statehood Day tomorrow, a concrete resolution on the issue is expected from the meeting.
