BSF administers booster doses to 2,000 personnel

BSF DIG (PRO) Pravin Bakshi said that BSF Meghalaya Frontier ensured 100% double dose vaccination to its healthcare workers and 99.89% Front Line Workers

SHILLONG:

Nearly 2,000 Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in Meghalaya were administered with booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccines.

“We have so far administered booster doses to 1,988 of the over 10,000 BSF personnel in the state,” informed a doctor from the BSF hospital, on January 22. He said only people who have completed nine months of receiving the second dose of the Covid vaccine are eligible for booster doses.

According to him, the vaccination drive for booster doses will be an ongoing process as part of the measures adopted by the BSF to tackle the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The doctor also informed that as of today, the BSF has only 40 active cases.

Earlier, BSF DIG (PRO) Pravin Bakshi highlighted the role of the BSF in helping the border population during the pandemic. He said amidst the COVID pandemic last year, BSF Meghalaya adhered to all the protocols obligated by state and central govt, like establishing quarantine centres, following preventive measures and vaccinating BSF as well as civil persons.

He said in need of hour, BSF has always come forward and gone extra mile beyond the call of duty, be it during COVID-19 by distributing food and essential items to the Border population in collaboration with NGOs and donation of plasma of convalescent recovered BSF personnel at NEIGRIHMS which was appreciated by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and later followed by other forces also.

“Our medical facilities at various BOPs have also played a vital role in providing immediate treatment to persons in need,” he said.

Bakshi said BSF Meghalaya Frontier ensured 100% double dose vaccination to its healthcare workers and 99.89% Front Line Workers. BSF also vaccinated family members, retirees, and other civilians as per the instruction. The Plasma donation by BSF personnel at NEIGRIHMS was appreciated by Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and state authorities.

Stating that the fight against 3rd wave of COVID is still going on, the DIG PRO said owing to the advent of Omicron variant and probability of third wave of Covid, booster dose and vaccination for 15 to 18 years age group also commenced at composite hospital Shillong.
