BSF lady constable from Tura HQ found hanging in Cooch Behar

The victim, 28-year-old Dhritashri Rabha was a karate martial artiste and a sporting champion for the border force.

A woman constable of the BSF based in Tura headquarters, but attached to a battalion in Cooch Behar for sporting activities was found hanging early on Monday inside the battalion complex under mysterious circumstances.

The victim, 28-year-old Dhritashri Rabha was a karate martial artiste and a sporting champion for the border force.

Hailing from Dakuapara village of Boko in Kamrup district of Assam, she belonged to 45th Battalion of the BSF based at Hallidayganj, West Garo Hills.

She had been attached to the 129 Battalion  of the BSF at Cooch Behar to participate in a karate championships when tragedy struck.

Though preliminary reports from the BSF claim it to be a case of suicide, family and relatives are not buying the story of the border force.

“She had spoken to her family till late last night and recently had also purchased a plot of land. She was the sole bread earner of the family, we are unable to believe she would take her own life,” said a neighbour.

A post-mortem has been conducted on the body at Cooch Behar itself and its report is awaited.
