AGARTALA:
The Border Security Force (BSF) Tripura Frontier apprehended more infiltrators last year than 2020.
A total of 221 infiltrators, including 97 Bangladeshi nationals, 118 Indian nationals, and 6 others were nabbed by the paramilitary organisation during the course of various operations along the international border, informed Inspector General (IG) of BSF Sushanta Kumar Nath on January 25.
Addressing the annual press briefing, Nath said, “We caught more people in 2021 as compared to 2020, however, it doesn’t mean that there has been an increase in illegal activities along the border.”
Nath further added that this has been possible due to increased vigil along the border areas, particularly in the eastern segment of the state.
“This has been possible due to the initiatives taken by the BSF, including installation of smart surveillance systems along the infiltration prone areas,” he added.
He said that the BSF also seized contraband items worth approximately Rs 35.64 crore in 2021, which, Nath said, was again due to the enhanced patrolling along the porous border areas.
In 2021, eight pending gaps of Single Row Fence (SRF) have been fully completed and plugged, the IG said, adding that the SRF work is in progress in other stretches as well.
