SHILLONG:
Suspended Congress MLA from Nongpoh, Mayralborn Syiem, met the Community and Rural Development Minister Hamlet Dohling on Monday with a request to carve out Umden C&RD Block from Umling C&RD Block.
The legislator informed that the Umling Block, which is one of the oldest in Ri Bhoi, is overburdened with around 223 villages.
Syiem said that Jirang C&RD Block has 105 villages, the Umsning C&RD Block has around 130 villages, Bhoirymbong Block is also a small block while Umling has 223 villages and a different block should be created.
Syiem also spoke to the minister about a new building for the Umling C& RD Block.
“It is confirmed that the government will soon sanction an amount of Rs 2.5 crore for building the new office of the Umling C& RD block. This will benefit the officials, the staff, headmen from different villages as the block covers 223 villages,” he said.
