Cheristerfield family wants CBI probe

SHILLONG:

The family of  Cheristerfield Thangkhiew has asked the state government to hand over the investigation into his death to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, D P Wahlang, on September 19, his brother Granary Thangkhiew cited the report of the one man commission headed by justice (retd) T Vaiphei, which has found there was culpability and excessive use of force on the part of the police at the time of operation leading to the death of his brother.

The commission had submitted the report on May 20.

He marked copies of the letter to the chief minister and Home minister.
