SHILLONG:
Miram Tarom, the Arunachal boy who was allegedly abducted by China’s People Liberation Army (PLA) from the Upper Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh January 18, was returned to Indian Army, on January 27.
Keeping in line with the Covid protocols, the boy was returned by the Chinese army garbed in personal protective equipment (PPE) kit at the WACHA-DAMAI interaction point in Arunachal Pradesh.
Union Minister for Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju made the announcement on his Twitter handle informing the same and posted three pictures of the handover.
Earlier on Republic Day, Rijiju had informed about the possible handover after the 17-year-old boy’s distressed parents sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention on the matter.
Earlier, Tarom, a native of Zido village in the district, had gone missing at the India-China border in Arunachal Pradesh on January 18.
He was allegedly abducted by PLA when he had wandered off into the depths of a nearby forest to hunt for medicinal herbs along with his friend, Johnny Yaying. While Johnny managed to flee, Tarom, unfortunately, was captured by the PLA.
