Chowna Mein lauds Army as he flags in ECTTAA at Golden Pagoda, Namsai

Mein said that the relationship between defence personnel and the local people of Arunachal Pradesh has always been very cordial and such activities will further cement the bonhomie.

Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein flagged in the Eastern Command Trans Theatre Adventure Activity (ECTTAA) – 2022 at Kongmu Kham (Golden Pagoda) in Namsai on December 7.

Present on the occasion were Major General MS Bains, GOC, 2 Mountain Division, Brigadier TM Sinha, CDR, 181 Mountain Brigade, His Eminence, Abbot of Golden Pagoda, Vimalatissa Bhante, and MLA Namsai, Chau Zingnu Namchoom among others.

In his address, Mein appreciated the bold initiative of the Eastern Command of the Indian Army for conducting such adventure activities in difficult terrains along the forward reaches of Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh to connect defence personnel with the local people.

Mein said that the relationship between defence personnel and the local people of Arunachal Pradesh has always been very cordial and such activities will further cement the bonhomie.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that Arunachal’s youngsters have performed well in the just concluded North East Olympic Games 2022 by securing the third position in the medal tally.

He said that it is the result of physical and mental fitness and lauded the Indian Army for promoting fitness through their adventure activities.

Mein expressed his gratitude to the Indian Army and all the paramilitary forces for their commitment to protect and safeguard our borders at all costs at all times.

He further said that Arunachal Pradesh has a huge scope for adventure tourism. With the opening of air connectivity, rail routes and frontier roads in the pipeline, Arunachal will soon become the most sought-after tourist destination.

He informed that with the support of the Union government, efforts are on to convert the holy site of Parshuram Kund into the largest pilgrimage site.

He further informed that the rail route to Parshuram Kund from Rupai will start soon once it gets clearance from the Defence Ministry.

Trekking Path to Glow Lake in Kamlang Sanctuary is also being developed for the trekkers to attract tourists, he informed.

He has further requested the ECTTAA-22 participants to become an ambassador for tourism of our State and carry back home the good message from Arunachal Pradesh.

ECTTAA – 2022 a multifaceted adventure activity under Eastern Command was flagged-off at Gangtok in Sikkim on August 25. In the four-month-long event, 22 adventure activities including mountaineering, cycling, trekking and white water rafting were conducted along the Mac Mohan Line from Jongsong Peak, Sikkim (Tri junction of India-Bhutan-China) to Jachep La, located on the eastern extremity of Arunachal Pradesh (Tri-junction of India-China-Myanmar).

The event was flagged off by Sikkim Governor Ganga Prasad, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and the General Officer Commanding of Trishakti Corps, Lt Gen Tarun Kumar Aich at Gangtok.

The medley of adventure activities included six mountaineering expeditions, seven treks of more than 750 km up to an altitude of 16,500 ft, six cycling expeditions over 1,000 km on non-existent roads in six valleys, and three white water rafting along three rivers.

Mountaineers Satyarup Sidhanta, Tiyash Mukhopadhyay and Rajeev Kumar Mondal from Kolkata and Varuna Raina from Jammu and Kashmir were amongst the known personalities participating in the Mt Jongsong expedition.

In a first-of-its-kind civilian-military activity to promote adventure tourism in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh, the team had 27 civil participants including five policemen along with military personnel from Eastern Command.
