Citizens unhappy with load-shedding in Shillong

Speaking to one of the students, Anshika Bhattacharjee said the unprecedented power crisis has badly affected the normal lives of the students.

Shillong:

The fresh load shedding schedule issued by the power department in Meghalaya has evoked sharp reactions from residents of Shillong who feel that it is high time the government bails people out of this annual suffering.

Speaking to one of the students, said the unprecedented power crisis has badly affected the normal lives of the students.

”The power crisis is affecting my performance in class as we don’t get access to wifi since most of the activities nowadays are being done through the internet, ‘’said the student.

Another shopkeeper expressing disgust over the prevailing state of affairs said ‘’At a time when the business is at its lowest, the power crisis has further affected our marketing.”

While the bigger, urban businesses are managing to sail through the crisis, small businesses and residents are not as fortunate.

One of the street vendors said power outages have brought their dreams crashing down. While most are struggling with deep losses, some are being forced to shut down.

”This leads to a lot of problems, as we have a continuous operation process which involves the use of current. So, during sudden power cuts, our things get wasted, ”

Notably, the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited has rescheduled the load-shedding hours across the state with effect from June 29.
