In a first for the state, Akash Kumar Choudhary was named in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 Player Auction list of 590 cricketers, set to go under the hammer during the two-day mega auction which will take place in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13, 2022.

Amongst 590 players who have been shortlisted for the auction, 228 are capped players, 355 are uncapped players and 7 belong to Associate Nations.

Earlier,1,214 players (896 Indian and 318 overseas players) have signed up to be part of the IPL 2022 Player Auction.

This will be the 15th season of the IPL and some of the biggest stars of world cricket will be coming together to light up the prestigious tournament.

Akash Kumar Choudhary, the 22-year fast bowler is a resident of Lower Nongrim Hills, Shillong and has been in the limelight in the domestic circuit with his outstanding performances over the years.

Speaking to The Meghalayan over the phone Akash said, he is overwhelmed by the development and he is hoping for the best to happen.

 “I m really overwhelmed and surprised and I can’t express my happiness and just keeping my fingers crossed,” said Akash.

It was learned that Meghalaya Cricket Association had sent names of four cricketers from the state, out of which only Aksah’s name had been selected for IPL Auction.

Talking to our reporter, Gideon Kharkongo, Honorary Secretary, Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) said,“from MCA there were 4 names of Akash, Kishan, Chiraq and Phukan in the nomination list and Akash’s name figured in the auction list is great news for all of us and we wish and hope that he is taken by one of the Indian Premier League franchises.”

Petermacdonald Kharsawian, President, Shillong Cricket Association, said, “it will be a great boost to cricket in the state and the region as a whole.”
