SHILLONG:
A one-day awareness programme on tourism was organised by the department of Tourism and Travel Management along with the department of Environment and Traditional Ecosystems, Martin Luther Christian University in collaboration with the MTAACS, MawmluhSardarship and YUVA Tourism Club, MLCU.
The sessions encouraged interactions and knowledge sharing which was centred around the theme “Tourism and Green Investments”.
Students from schools in and around Mawmluh village including Ramakrishna Mission Higher Secondary School, St. John Girls Higher Secondary School, NabonSawian Memorial School, Rabon Sing Memorial LP, Sohra Academy Higher Secondary School were also present at the programme.
Through engagement activities and interactive sessions, the students not only learnt about sustainable practices, but also concepts related to tourism, benefits and impacts of tourism, conservation of caves and biodiversity, the significance of the Meghalayan Age, waste management, water conservation, pollution and its impacts, and career prospects.
This was followed by a formal programme graced by DD Laloo, entrepreneur and Patricia Mukhim, Shillong Times editor who also shared their valuable insights on green investments towards shaping economic, environmental and cultural growth around Mawmluh village.
The event also served as a testament of the University’s commitment to educate the future leaders on how to balance tourism, economic growth and environmental preservation.
