Claims over Mukroh: Conrad counters Himanta, says area under Meghalaya’s jurisdiction

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on March 13 informed the assembly that Mukroh village is under West Karbi Anglong district of Assam.

SHILLONG:

Days after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed Mukroh to be under West Karbi Anglong’s jurisdiction, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma firmly stated that Mukroh is not a disputed area and it is very much within Meghalaya’s jurisdiction.

“We have been clear that Mukroh is not a disputed area; it is very much within Meghalaya and this is our stand; we have made it very clear from day one,” Sangma said.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on March 13 informed the assembly that Mukroh village is under West Karbi Anglong district of Assam.

Mukroh under West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya remains a bone of contention between the two states following a clash in November last year that led to the death of five civilians and one forest guard.
