SHILLONG:
Members of the Voice of the People Party (VPP), on May 12, submitted a memorandum to Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, seeking a review of the controversial State Reservation Policy.
Earlier, while addressing a crowd at the parking lot of the Additional Secretariat, the VPP chief termed the absence of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Deputy Chief Minister incharge Home Prestone Tynsong as an “insult” to the party.
Feeling insulted, the VPP refused to enter the Main Secretariat and asked the party members, led by Dr Ricky Syngkon, to submit the memorandum to Deputy Chief Minister Incharge Urban Affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar, in the presence of Chief Secretary DP Wahlang.
“We have received information that the chief minister and deputy chief minister are not in Shillong; they went to Delhi. I did not know that they were this scared of the VPP. I enquired as to what was so important that they had gone there and it seems they went there to ask for an international airport…..It is just an excuse to avoid the VPP,” Basaiawmoit said.
