SHILLONG:
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, on May 8, met Lorenza Songthiang, a shining star in Pankration, who will be competing at the World Combat Games at Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in October this year.
She created history by being the first from Meghalaya to qualify for the World Combat Games.
Songthiang brought laurels to the state and the country after winning a bronze medal in the Pankration World Championship, which was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from May 2 to 4.
Pankration is practiced in some parts of the world as a combat sport. Modern Pankration emphasises the use of grappling techniques, but also allows strikes to the body and head – a mixture of boxing and wrestling.
