CM reminds BJP is part of govt

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that inquiry reports into the Saubhagya scheme, the rice scam and others have been submitted and made public.

SHILLONG:

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Saturday pointed out that the BJP has been part of the MDA government for the past five years while responding to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s charge of Meghalaya being the most corrupt state in the country.

He said, “BJP was very much part of the government for the last five years. These kinds of statements are being made in almost every political election be it in West Bengal, Telangana and Delhi, in every state or whenever there is an opposition to the BJP. These are statements made for election purposes and I have nothing to say.”

He said that inquiry reports into the Saubhagya scheme, the rice scam and others have been submitted and made public.

Asked on the Covid expenditure, the chief minister said, “They can file RTIs, everything is in order and all the expenditure is in order. People are free to file RTIs.”

Turning to the illegal coal mining, he maintained that there are laws to check such activities.

On the upcoming election on February 27, Sangma, who is also national president of NPP, expressed confidence that the party will emerge as the single largest.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a programme at the Raj Bhavan here on Saturday, he said, “We will emerge as the single largest party and we are inching towards getting full majority.”
