SHILLONG:
Disappointed by the statement of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Chief Executive Member (CEM), Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on December 2 said that the stand of the two chief ministers – Assam and Meghalaya – should be taken as the official stand of the two governments when it comes to border issues.
Earlier, KAAC CEM Tuliram Ronghang said, “Not an inch of land will be given to illegal settlers,” after his visit to Mukroh. He then clarified that his tweet was misunderstood and deleted it.
“These kinds of statements should not be made and we do not appreciate these statements, to be very frank. These are times when we are having challenges and these statements do not help the situation at all,” the chief minister said.
Following the tweet by Ronghang, Sangma had a talk with Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma where the latter agreed that such statements should not be made.
Sangma felt that some individuals will make statements but ultimately it is at the level of the chief ministers and that of the Union Home Minister that should be looked at.
As for the Border Outposts in Mukroh, the chief minister said that a platoon has been officially sanctioned for Mukroh as well as in other areas such as Khanduli.
The Cabinet has recently officially sanctioned seven Border Outposts in the state.
