Congress DAC to look into Mara Congress MDCs’ reply to show cause notice

The Pradesh Action Committee (PAC) had served show cause notice to the MDCC leaders and four party MDCs to explain why they had joined hands with the Mizo National Front (MNF), Congress’ arch rival in the state, to form the government in the MADC despite the PAC's instruction to remain in the opposition.

AIZAWL:

Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has entrusted the party’s disciplinary action committee (DAC) to take up the matter pertaining to the replies given by Mara District Congress Committee (MDCC) leaders and four members of district council (MDCs) of the Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC)

State PCC sources said that the decision to task the DAC of the party was taken by the meeting of the political affairs committee of the MPCC chaired by the MPCC chief Lalsawta on Tuesday.

The Pradesh Action Committee (PAC) had served show cause notice to the MDCC leaders and four party MDCs to explain why they had joined hands with the Mizo National Front (MNF), Congress’ arch rival in the state, to form the government in the MADC despite the PAC’s instruction to remain in the opposition.

The state PCC’s PAC, after the party managed to bag only four seats in the election to the 25-member MADC, announced that the Congress respected the mandate of the Mara people which wanted the party MDCs to sit in the opposition.

Defying the party PAC’s diktat, the MDCC leaders and the 4 elected MDCs on May 16 agreed to form a coalition government in the MADC by forming a joint legislature party headed by H Malvina of the Congress.

Electorate of the MADC gave a mandate of a hung house with the BJP, though emerging as the largest single party managed to secure 12 seats, one seat short to have a majority while the MNF bagged 9 seats.

MPCC’s PAC took a serious view of the disobedience of its decision by serving show cause notice to the MDCC leaders and the 4 MDCs, who gave replies to the PAC on May 31.

The PAC meeting on June 7 instructed the disciplinary action committee to take deposition of the MDCC leaders and 4 MDCs by visiting them in southernmost Mizoram’s Siaha district and it would take the final decision in accordance with the reports and recommendations of the DAC.
