The All India Congress Committee (AICC), on January 22, released its candidates’ list for 40-Assembly constituencies in Manipur.

Former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh will contest from Thoubal Assembly constituency of the valley, the list said.

Some of the other candidates who will contest from valley districts include Thokchom Lokeshwar Singh, Salam Joy Singh, and TN Haokip, among others.

Alfred Kanngam S Arthur will contest from Naga inhabited Ukhrul Assembly constituency.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday extended its ban on roadshow, pad-yatra, cycle-bike-vehicle rally and procession in all poll-bound States till January 31.

The decision was taken after the commission reviewed the present COVID-19 situation with Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan and health secretaries of all five poll-bound States.

The Commission held virtual meetings with Chief Secretaries, Chief Electoral Officers and Health Secretaries of Goa, Manipur, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh and reviewed the situation.

Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra, along with Election Commissioners Rajiv Kumar and Anup Chandra Pandey accompanied by Secretary-General and concerned Deputy Election Commissioners held a comprehensive review of the present situation with respect to status and projected trends of COVID pandemic in the five poll going states.

The Commission also reviewed vaccination status and action plan for expeditiously completing vaccination for 1st, 2nd and booster dose for eligible persons amongst polling personnel.
