Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh

SHILLONG:

Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, on April 20, said that that the positivity rate of Covid in Meghalaya is still under control, and the government does not want to cause unnecessary alarm as it will create ripples across the state.

Speaking to media persons on the sudden surge of Covid cases in West Garo Hills, Lyngdoh said that there were 9 cases detected in WGH, and currently the state has only 15 active cases.

“We do not want to unnecessarily create the wrong alarm because as of today our positivity rate is very low. So, I would suggest as a state, citizens themselves should police themselves, so that we don’t cause inconvenience to the entire public at large,” Lyngdoh said.

She said that it was through the participation of the public the state managed to contain Covid upsurge during both the waves, and the infrastructure to tackle the surge is at a very comfortable level.

“We recently also had an online interaction with the union minister of health seeking assistance on vaccines in stock, however, we have not got a response yet,” she added.

She further said that the state reported five new cases on April 20, with two recoveries.

She also revealed that the vaccine coverage has been very good, and maximum people have been vaccinated.
