Create job opportunites, not discuss quota policy: Mukul

Sangma also slammed the NPP-led MDA government for delaying a decision on the issue following the intervention of the Meghalaya High Court in regard to the implementation of the roster system.

SHILLONG:

Opposition AITC leader and former chief minister Mukul Sangma on Thursday called upon leaders of political parties to avoid the discussion as far as the job reservation policy is concerned and instead focus on the creation of more job opportunities for the people of the state.

Sangma also slammed the NPP-led MDA government for delaying a decision on the issue following the intervention of the Meghalaya High Court in regard to the implementation of the roster system.

The former leader of the opposition told reporters that he had always tried to prevail upon his political colleagues that as far as the job reservation policy is concerned “the less we discuss inside the House or outside the House the better because there are many other challenges associated with this policy”.

“I would still urge upon all our friends across party lines to understand this very purpose of deciding in avoiding discussion of this issue rather than discuss among ourselves only to understand the challenges associated with this policy including the constitutional provisions,” he said.

“It is not important for us to actually demonstrate as to who is more concerned for our people or ‘jaitbynriew’. We are all concerned,” he said while urging that focus should be more on the creation of opportunities for unemployed youth of the state. “We should all come together in unison to open up more and more opportunities for all our people for the young budding entrepreneurs, the young men and women aspiring to serve the people and the state.”

“But as far as this very sensitive issue of job reservation policy of the state is concerned, the less we discuss the better it is and I would urge upon everybody concerned to really try to have a little bit of analytical exercise as to why I am sharing this concern with you,” Sangma asserted.

On the other hand, the former chief minister questioned the state government for delaying to take a decision on the roster system despite the intervention of the High Court.

He said that the delay of the government had only led to different types of narratives which are really not pleasant to hear.
