Crowborough Hotel to be completed within 5-6 months, claims MTDC

SHILLONG

The infamous Crowborough Hotel project sees a glimpse of hope with Chairman of Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), Saleng Sangma assuring that the hotel will be completed within 5-6 months.

Speaking to the mediapersons on Monday, Sangma said that the construction of the much-awaited Crowborough Hotel project is nearly completed while adding that the department is working hard to finish the project within five to six months.

“We are trying hard to finish the project as soon as possible within 5-6 months. We were targeting to inaugurate before the 50th Statehood Day celebration but there are few things that need to be corrected. The contractors are asking for extension for at least 2-3 months,” he said.

It may be mentioned that Crowborough hotel was a long pending project of the state which was initiated on March 10, 1987. The project was proposed on a PPP mode using the Build, Operate, Lease, Transfer model.

The work was delayed as the building permission had to be sought dated back to the 80s and work again resumed in the 2000s. The Crowborugh Hotel, when completed will have nine floors with 8 economy rooms, 58 standard rooms, 30 deluxe rooms, 5 suites, one banquet hall, one coffee shop besides a parking lot.

Umiam facelift

As for the Umiam facelift, Sangma said the corporation has contacted the companies who supply materials such as Jet Ski, and for parasailing.

He informed that the corporation is already in the process and Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has given his approval for the project.

The corporation has proposed to start adventure tourism-related activities at the Umiam Lake.
