The Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) has reiterated its demand for a separate Khasi state saying not having a state exclusively for the community has accentuated problems for the people, especially, in regard to the Khasi language and customary laws.
“We demand the existing boundary of the Khasi state, not more not less. Khasi state is our birthright. We are born with that right and if necessary, will die fighting for it,” said the president of the organisation Donbok Dkhar, during a meeting of the organisation’s members at Khyndailad.
The members of HITO also distributed flyers to the public stressing the importance and need to achieve a separate Khasi state. Dkhar said that the distribution of flyers is only the beginning but they will also take a step to visit Delhi as well.
