Dhar confident that NPP will win Shillong parliamentary seat, says VPP is just an empty vessel that makes a lot of noise

Shillong, April 17: National People’s Party (NPP) national general secretary and deputy chief minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Wednesday said the party has the highest vote share compared to other political parties and no doubt it will definitely win the Shillong parliamentary seat in the Lok Sabha election to be held on April 19.

Addressing an election campaign at Malki ground, Dhar said the total vote share of the NPP comes to around 4.45 lakh.

“Of this, 3.20 lakh votes were secured by the party during the last 2023 election and around 1.38 lakh votes we got from the recent merging of different leaders with the party. Further, we are yet to calculate the BJP votes which will be a bonus to us. Therefore, going by our vote share, we are definitely winning the Shillong parliamentary seat,” he said.

According to him, the NPP has the highest vote share in the state. United Democratic Party (UDP) got only 2.90 lakh in the last election, Congress 1.50 lakh and VPP 1.4 lakh.

Terming the Voice of the People Party as an empty vessel, Dhar said, “However, in social media, you will see only the Voice of the People Party (VPP) but I will tell you empty vessels make a lot of noise.”

“How can you trust the VPP president, who is a turned coat,” he asked while reminding the people that Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit had in the past joined the UDP and HSPDP in the name of bringing a change and in 2019, he also supported and campaigned for the Congress saying that regional parties are mushrooming only before election.

“But don’t you think that the VPP is also a mushroom party?” he said.

He also slammed the VPP for collecting money from the people. “When they faces lack of fund, they organize a meeting in Jaintia Hills and collect money in a bucket and this is the same party which
preaches that they will eliminate corruption,” he said.

Questioning the contribution of Basaiawmoit, Dhar said, “The only major contribution of the VPP president is the attempt to dilute the matrilineal system. Is it really a personal matter to give a father’s surname to your children? Is it not trying to wipe out the matrilineal system?”

Highlighting the achievements of the MDA government in the past 6 years, the NPP leader said, “The NPP has presented its blueprint to take the state forward but the VPP never dared to present its blueprint. The NPP will ensure that no youth will have to drop a single tear. Our leaders are having sleepless nights for the interest and welfare of the people of the state.”

Urging people to vote for Ampareen Lyngdoh, Dhar said that if voted as MP, Lyngdoh will ensure identity and interest of the people and the state are protected and will ensure more development comes to the state.
