SHILLONG:

The Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, SC Sadhu, on January 25 encouraged voters to come out and vote so that the poll participation on February 27 crosses at least 90 per cent.

He was speaking at the District Level Function for the celebration of the 13th National Voters’ Day 2023 under the theme “Nothing Like Voting, I Vote For Sure” held at the office of the Deputy Commissioner. Representatives from political parties were also present at the programme.

National Voters’ Day is observed annually on January 25.

“This time the election should be more inclusive and participatory. Last election (2018) the polling percentage was 80.09 which is still less in comparison to the state average. This time, we are looking at 90-95 per cent voting, so for this all stakeholders have to put effort to ensure participation. Appeal to all voters to come forward and cast their vote without any bias, any inducement,” Sadhu said.

Sadhu said that the national voters’ day is to encourage new voters to participate in the election process.

Turning to the representatives of political parties, he said that the political parties have more reach in village and community level and urged them to inform that enrolment for eligible voters is still open till the last day of nominations.

The members present also took the voters’ pledge at the programme.
