GUWAHATI:

A wild elephant that was hit by a train and later rescued by the forest department succumbed to injuries in Assam’s Mariani on October 12.

The elephant was found in a pool of mud by forest department officials, 40 hours after it sustained injuries in the accident that had taken place in Assam’s Titabor on Sunday.

As per sources, the injured elephant was being treated by a doctor in Mariani while a team of doctors from Kaziranga were supposed to reach on Wednesday to further provide treatment.

The animal is said to have died because it was not found in time and also because it received medical attention late.
