AGARTALA:
Former chief minister of Tripura Manik Sarkar has sought the intervention of incumbent chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb to solve the various problems faced by the visually impaired people in the state.
Sarkar, who is also the leader of opposition, shot a letter to Deb apprising him about a meeting that took place between the veteran Communist Party of India – Marxist (CPI-M) leader and a delegation of the All Tripura Blind Association on February 19. Sarkar said that the delegation also submitted a memorandum to him soliciting help to solve their long-pending, “genuine” demands.
“It is known to all sensible people that, the visually handicapped people always need sympathy and necessary help from the government and the society for their security, survival and prosperity in order to build confidence in them about their own inherent strength, ability, and capability. According to their expression, it is found that they are not getting due sympathy and necessary help from the government of Tripura. It is a sorry state of affairs,” Sarkar wrote to the chief minister.
Along with his letter, the veteran leader also enclosed the memorandum submitted by the delegation to Deb and urged the chief minister to organise a meeting so that the submitters of the memorandum can deliberate their problems to the chief minister directly.
“I think, there is no need for further elaboration and narrating of their problems and demands too. Therefore, I would request you to see their memorandum for taking a necessary step(s) from your end to solve their problems. They may also be called to brief their problems by themselves which may be useful for you to arrive at a position that how best you can extend help of your government to them without further delay”, Sarkar’s letter read.
