NONGSTOIN:
The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has expanded its base in West Khasi Hills district on January 27 with several individuals, including former Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) leader Bobby B Kharchandi, inducted into the party fold in a meeting held at Bishop Hall in Nongstoin.
VPP Nongstoin also elected Kharchandi as its president, Samuwell Marngar as vice-president, PK Lyngdoh as general secretary and 23 other office-bearers. They were welcomed by VPP president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit.
The party also announced Kharchandi as its candidate from Nongstoin for the upcoming polls in the state.
Addressing the gathering, Kharchandi said that he wanted to contest the election from HSPDP but he was denied a ticket.
He added that after he was denied a ticket by HSPDP he decided to contest the election as an independent candidate but his supporters wanted him to join and contest from VPP.
Kharchandi said, “God does not give us what we want but he gives us what we need, and he gave us the Voice of the People Party.”
Meanwhile, Basaiawmoit said, “We do not want people to join VPP just for the party ticket without knowing and accepting the principle and ideology of the party.”
“Our vision is to revive, restore and transform Meghalaya in the next 30 to 50 years if the people of the state give us a chance to serve,” he said.
He further added that the principle and the ideology of the party is to bring a change through clean politics in order to bring good governance.
“Without good governance, we cannot deliver on promises to the people and people may say that I keep changing from one political party to another but to date, I never changed my ideology,” he stated.
Basaiawmoit also said that the people of the state have been betrayed by the political leaders in the past years, the beautiful state of Meghalaya is the worst performer as compared to the other states of the country be it in the education sector, health sector besides others.
