FACES announce second edition of KCF, 2023

The aim of this festival is to highlight and showcase talent of North East India, and instil in aspiring filmmakers love and passion for cinema, apart from welcoming film industry entrepreneurs to boost the nascent film industry.

The highly anticipated second edition of the Kelvin Cinema Festival (KCF), 2023, was unveiled by the Fraternity Art Cine Entertainment (FACES) on May 26, 2023.

This prestigious three-day event, presented by the Shankar Lall Goenka and Jeevan Ram Mungi Devi Goenka Public Charitable Trust (JRMDGPCT) in association with FACES, is set to take place from November 9 to 11, 2023, at the U Soso Tham Auditorium in Shillong.

The aim of this festival is to highlight and showcase talent of North East India, and instil in aspiring filmmakers love and passion for cinema, apart from welcoming film industry entrepreneurs to boost the nascent film industry.

As part of the festival, a short film competition will screen films, open only for Indian filmmakers. Short films and documentaries will be accepted in any language.

The films can neither be less than 10 minutes nor exceed 30 minutes runtime. Trophies and a total cash prize of 4 lacs will be given to winners in different categories.

An out-of-competition section of international films will be screened at the festival, curated by Something Like a Film Festival (SLFF), 2023, which is represented by Docskool, Nepal, in the 90-minute slot of festival programming.

Another short film festival, titled, 5 Minutes Film Competition, is open only for Meghalaya-based filmmakers. Fiction and non-fiction narratives will be accepted. The theme is “Environment and Border Issues”. Filmmakers of the state have to shoot in and around Maikhuli, Pillangkatta area, Nongthymmai (Garo) and West Jaintia Hills.

Total cash prizes amounting to Rs 30,000 and a trophy will be given to winners in this section. Additionally, the winning film will be screened at KCF2023.

Notably, the first edition of KCF was organised in 2019; 740 films were submitted, of these, 477 films came from different parts of the country while 263 films were from North East India.
