SHILLONG:

The Federation of Medical Representatives Association of India (FMRAI), on July 19, while observing the Anti Victimisation Day, slammed global pharmaceutical companies for terminating field workers in the name of down-sizing.

Joydeep Nath, a leader of FMRAI Meghalaya who was terminated by Pfizer, said that the pharmaceutical companies are laying off people despite pocketing huge profits.

Nath said that Pfizer terminated 200 field workers after a town hall meeting, and subsequently, during an on-online meeting, gave restriction as a reason for down-sizing. “Without following the law of the land, Pfizer, an American company, did that to their workers despite earning a huge amount of profit during Covid,” Nath said.

Nath said in the name of global policy, these companies are reducing the employment of field workers by appointing third parties, and that the perennial nature of the employment has gone down. “They do not want to take the liabilities of the employment anymore,” Nath said.

He revealed that another company, Novartis, too had terminated 400 workers in a single day and GSK (Glaxso) too did a similar thing, and the termination had started post Covid-19. He said that the field workers, who depend on these jobs to sustain their families, were left jobless within 15 minutes.
