John also expressed his interest to contest from South Tura, which is presently represented by the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma. "However, I leave it to the wisdom of the party," he said.

SHILLONG:

Former South Tura legislator, John Leslie K Sangma along with 12 others joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on June 29.

Addressing the induction ceremony at the state BJP office, senior BJP leader, AL Hek said that John’s induction will bring benefit BJP in the electoral battle.

“The party is getting good leaders and now we should work towards achieving the ultimate goal of a BJP-led government post 2023 polls,” he said.

John said he has been asking the people in Garo Hills including his well-wishers and leaders one basic question that can anyone deny the fact that BJP will be there in the centre for the next 20 years.

“Why should we turn our backs on a political party which is governing at the Centre and deprived ourselves of development? Therefore, the reason I joined the BJP is my need and my dream for development of the people of Garo Hills and Meghalaya.”

He said that the youths are in desperate need of jobs, the road conditions are pathetic, more health infrastructure is needed.

“Whatever is happening in Assam encouraged me to move forward and be a part of this great party and bring as much development as possible with the support and cooperation of party leaders,” he said.

John also expressed his interest to contest from South Tura, which is presently represented by the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma. “However, I leave it to the wisdom of the party,” he said.

State BJP chief Ernest Mawrie also said that he hopes more leaders will join the party in the near future and that their doors are always open for new leaders.
