Four held for murder in Umiam murder case

SHILLONG:

The East Khasi Hills district police have arrested four persons in connection with the murder of one Omega Myrthong (30) of Mawlaingut village.

While  three persons (all male) were arrested on April 1, the other one was arrested on April 2.

“On the fateful night of February 26 the deceased was part of a brawl between two groups after consuming alcohol,” Vivek Syiem Superintendent of Police (City) said.

According to Syiem, on his way home alone, the deceased was then abducted and killed at Pomlum View Point and the body chopped up by the banks of the Umiam Lake.

The vehicle for abducting the deceased, a Bolero Pick up used to abduct the deceased and the clothes of the deceased were recovered on Monday, on the trail of the accused from Dewsaw Krang and Nongpathaw jungle respectively.

Police said that investigation is on to complete the case and a charge-sheet will be filed soon.

It may be mentioned that Myrthong went missing from the village on February 26.

A Missing Case was registered at Lumdiengiri police station and on conducting search, a decomposed head suspected to be of the missing person was recovered on March 7 from the banks of Umiam Lake.

On March 8 morning, the left arm and the right arm were recovered from separate locations around Umiam Lake which was in a decomposed state and later the half buried torso was also recovered around the area.

The post mortem of the body was done on March 10 at Civil Hospital Hospital, Nongpoh.

A case vide Lumdiengiri PS Case No. 32(3)2022 U/S 364/302/201 IPC was registered and investigation taken up.
