Cabinet Minister AL Hek, on June 7, said that the government has received the letter from the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary officer of Ri Bhoi district stating that four villages in the district have been affected with cases of African Swine Flu (ASF), and the DC on his part has passed the prohibitory order to declare these four villages as containment zones.
“Accordingly, four villages Umsohlait, Madan Nonglakhiat, Mawlyngkhung, and Syllei-U-Lar villages in Ri Bhoi have been declared as containment zones,” Hek told media persons.
He said that the rapid response team have been sent to contain the areas and take immediate measures to control the spread of the disease in pigs.
Speaking on the Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) infecting cattle, he informed that similar steps are being taken for LSD as well.
