Fraudsters are at it again, and this time they are pretending to be Tripura’s Transport and Tourism Minister Pranajit Singha Roy.
Another fraudster attempted to con people close to Pranajit Singha Roy by asking them to send Amazon Pay eGift cards.
The matter came to light after the minister’s office issued a statement about a racketeer opening a fake WhatsApp account in the name of the minister with the intention of cheating people close to him.
“This number has nothing to do with me. The Cyber Crime Branch Unit of Tripura Police has been informed about this. I asked the police to investigate the whole matter. We have requested the police to find out who is running these fraudulent rackets and to take strict action,” the statement read.
The minister further appealed to people to report to the local police immediately if they receive such messages.
“This is a conspiracy which hatched to tarnish my image and discredit me politically,” the statement added.
Earlier on April 20, a man impersonated as Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury and sought money from people via WhatsApp.
