SHILLONG:
Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Urban Affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar has said that the government will no longer invite the Harijan Panchanyat Committee (HPC) for discussion on the proposed relocation of residents of Harijan Colony from Them Iew Mawlong.
“No, we will not call them. They (HPC) have expressed very clearly, so how will we call them (for talks),” Dhar said.
According to him, the government will again sit very shortly to discuss the issue.
Dhar had in his recent statement stated that it was not possible for the government to accept the proposal of the HPC because their demand was too high.
The government’s proposal is to relocate the 342 families from Them Iew Mawlong to the existing land of the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB). However, this proposal was rejected by the HPC recently in its reply submitted to the government.
The government had also maintained that it will not change its stand on relocating the residents to the existing land of the SMB.
