Govt to sponsor mid-career courses for bureaucrats of state

Informing about the programme, Cabinet Minister Paul Lyngdoh said that the government will encourage and incentivise the officers to continue learning by pursuing courses at various universities that offer higher degree and diploma courses.

In a bid to improve the efficiency of bureaucracy in the state, the cabinet has taken up the item of mid-career sponsored courses for senior level officers belonging to All India Services, MCS, MP, MFS, Forest Service, and Finance Service.

Informing about the programme, Cabinet Minister Paul Lyngdoh said that the government will encourage and incentivise the officers to continue learning by pursuing courses at various universities that offer higher degree and diploma courses.

“These will be undertaken by our officers without any dislocation from work meaning that they will not be taking any leaves in the course of the training. They will be in a position to undertake such courses in the weekends or post office hours,” Lyngdoh told media persons after the cabinet meeting on August 10.

He informed that the officers can take up courses such as MBA for working professionals offered by IIM Shillong, Masters in Public Policy by OP Jindal Global University, Certificate Courses in data Sciences and AI offered by Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Bangalore or University of Maryland, PhD Programmes for working professionals offered by IIM Shillong, and part time PhD offered by OP Jindal Law School and IITs, PhD in management by IIMs.

He said that to incentivise these officers the state government will fund the tuition fees for the programme upto a limit of Rs 15 lakhs, and there are some conditions for the same.

“The officers must have rendered 7 years of service, should undertake the course on part time basis without any study leave and every year upto 3 officers will get admission in the course of study approved by the government,” he said.
